When and where to practise Taiji Five-Element Medical Qigong


It is best to listen to the qigong practice CDs at least once to familiarize yourself with the instructions before you start the practice.

  • Choose a quiet place where you feel comfortable and are free from disturbances. Turn off telephones and pagers. Distractions can interfere with your concentration and sudden loud noises may disturb your system as you become more sensitive with qigong practice.
  • Should you be interrupted during the practice, rub your hands together and then rub your face a few times to do a quick closing right away.
  • You may practice qigong alone, with a partner, or in a group to find inspiration.
  • Most people choose to begin with the One-Step Classic Meditation (1.0 hour), or the Standing Meditation for Magnification plus the One-Step Classic Meditation (1.5 hours).
  • When combining more than one qigong form for a session of practice, you need only to do the closing once at the end of the complete practice. Closing is the part where you “rub your hands, stroke the face#..” etc. at the end of each form and it is an important step to ensure you retain all the good qi gathered and cultivated during the practice.
  • For best results, practice qigong twice daily: after getting up in the morning and before going to bed at night. Keep in mind that your own results are proportionate to the level of commitment, dedication and time that you put into qigong meditation.
